Sonskyn is a fifth generation beachfront home. The home dates back to 1895. Our great grandmother, Christina Maria van Niekerk (neé Loubser), chose this unique spot to create a space for a comfortable holiday, entertain family & friends, enjoy the air & ocean breeze, and to revitalize herself and her guests.

We as a family (Christina, Michael and Marietjie) see it as our privilege to continue this tradition. We offer you hearty, old fashioned, personalized hospitality at all times.

At Sonskyn ("Sunshine") you will hear the sounds of white foaming waves breaking on the rocks in front of the house and see the surf roll out onto the pebble beach.

Start your day with a cup of our bottomless filter coffee. Let us spoil you with a full English breakfast in our seafront lounge. Enjoy unspoilt views of the Atlantic Ocean, Table Mountain and Robben Island (where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 of his 27 year jail sentence).

Strolling along the beachfront path (wheelchair friendly) through the old village, you will pass three well-known restaurants. One of these, "Ons Huisie, a traditionally built West Coast fisherman's cottage (1816), is now a national monument.

Enjoy kite surfing, windsurfing or swimming at the internationally renowned Big Bay beach, or just relax on our sun patio ("sonstoep") abutting the beach. For the golfers, there's a choice of two well-known golf courses, Atlantic Beach or Milnerton golf clubs, a five-minute drive away. Take a 20 minute-drive to Cape Town, V&A Waterfront or other shopping centres like Canal Walk or Tyger Valley.

Experience spectacular sunsets while enjoying a complimentary sherry from Sonskyn in our seafront lounge. Now's the time for observing the gliding seagulls and African Black Oystercatchers ("Swart Tobies") - charismatic, "near-threatened" birds - recline, breathe fresh air, share a hearty laugh and feel revitalized
